SUMMARY:Kayaking River Clean-Up @ Kingman Island
DESCRIPTION:An Evening On The Anacostia River \nThe Reservoir Center continues to advance our key pillars of education and community engagement. Most recently\, we partnered with Living Classrooms and the Washington\, D.C. Department of Energy and Environment for an evening of kayaking and cleanup on the Anacostia River. \nAfter a brief introduction to the program and safety training\, participants used kayaks to collect trash. \nIn all\, we removed a lot of trash\, and the data gathered from this program is critical to informing policy and education focused on reducing litter that washes into the river. It was wonderful to meet so many people who share our passion for the river and reducing marine pollution.

SUMMARY:Innovation and Access: Water Solutions for Underserved Communities
DESCRIPTION:We hosted a thought-provoking conversation on water access for underserved communities. Our event co-hosts included Anacostia Riverkeeper\, DigDeep\, Moonshot Missions\, U.S. Water Alliance\, Engineers Without Borders-USA\, and the Rural Community Assistance Partnership. \nIn addition to experts representing our co-hosts\, Mae Wu\, Deputy Assistant Administrator for the EPA Office of Water offered remarks about the Biden Administration’s $200 million investment in technical assistance to communities to improve access. The conversation centered around investment in human capacity within communities\, infrastructure\, engineering\, technology\, and the need for human-centered design for water projects. Speakers shared inspiring experiences about leveraging existing solutions\, improving relationships and the value of sharing knowledge between utilities and communities. \nThe event emphasized the urgency of this issue\, and the opportunity we must pursue together to rise to the challenge of delivering water to communities in need. \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n	\n	\n	\n \n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n \n	\n\n	\n	\n	\n\n	\n\n  \nAGENDA: \nIntroductory Remarks \n\nDr. Lindsay Birt\, Client Solutions Manager\, Xylem\nBoris Martin\, CEO\, Engineers Without Borders USA\nMae Wu\, Deputy Assistant Administrator\, Office of Water\, EPA\n\n  \nPanel 1 “Water Access and Service Challenges in Historically Underserved Communities” \nModerator: Dr. Lindsay Birt\, Client Solutions Manager\, Xylem \n\nMaranda Saling\, Government Affairs and Policy Manager\, RCAP\nPaula Conolly\, Director of Local Engagement and Senior Advisor for Distributed Infrastructure\, US Water Alliance\nEdna Primrose\, Board Director\, DigDeep\n\n  \nPanel 2 “Technology and Engineering Solutions to Improve Water Access\, Service\, and Community Outcomes” \nModerator: Travis Loop\, Founder\, waterloop \n\nTrey Sherard\, Anacostia Riverkeeper\, Anacostia Riverkeeper\nEllie Carley\, Program Manager\, Engineers Without Borders USA\nAndrew Kricun\, P.E.\, Managing Director\, Moonshot Missions

SUMMARY:Reservoir Center Movie Night
DESCRIPTION:Thank you to everyone who joined us for a Reservoir Center night at the movies! It was a fun and informative evening filled with impressive films and great networking. The movies’ screened were water-focused documentaries “Upstream\, Downriver” and “A River Out of Time”. \n“Upstream\, Downriver” takes viewers into the heart of the battle for water justice. Powerful stories with frontline community activists are interwoven with historical context about landmark regulations that significantly reduced water pollution in the U.S. but failed to serve disadvantaged communities that are hardest hit by today’s climate crisis. \n“A River Out of Time” follows a crew of scientists\, artists\, educators\, and river lovers on a trip that was simultaneously a celebration of modern river life and a critical look at how we interpret the Colorado River’s history and use its waters. In 1869\, a small group of surveyors led by John Wesley Powell set out to map the unknown extent of the Colorado River Basin. 150 years later\, this team set out to raft in Powell’s footsteps in an effort to reevaluate Powell’s legacy\, absorb the unquantifiable power of place\, and articulate what the future may hold for water in the American West. \nFernando Castro-Alvarez\, Regional Liaison for the Bureau of Reclamation\, provided an in-depth overview of the challenges and opportunities facing the Colorado River\, along with sharing his personal connection to the water challenges confronting the western U.S. Visitors were treated to pizza\, local craft beer\, and popcorn. We hope you can join us for our next movie night! \nSpecial thanks to our event co-hosts: Anacostia Riverkeeper\, Association of State Drinking Water Administrators (ASDWA)\, Women’s Aquatic Network\, Potomac Riverkeeper Network \n                        \n
