Kayak Clean-Up

20 Rising Water Professionals enjoyed a beautiful evening paddling on the Anacostia River and picking up trash. Common trash items collected and noted on their trash BINGO cards included: bottle caps, wrappers, plastic bottles, plastic bags, Styrofoam pieces, glass bottles, and cans. Some not so common items included a child’s doll and a full bottle of perfume.
While cleanups like this don’t help stop trash from ending up in the river, we hope events like this help make participants, and those that they seem picking up trash, think about how these items get in the river and what can be done to ensure trash doesn’t end up in our water ways.
